Term 1 - Movers and Shakers

Our driver project this term is 'Movers and Shakers'. This project teaches children about historically significant people who have had a major impact on the world.

Have a look at our curriculum map below to see what we are going to be learning in more depth.

Over the last couple of weeks we have really enjoyed getting stuck into art and learning about colour mixing! We have learned about the primary and secondary colours, made our own colour wheel, and have looked at how adding more or less of a primary colour will change the hue of a secondary colour.

In D&T we are learning all about nutrition and food hygiene. We have been learning how to safely use cooking equipment and how to read recipes. This week we used a recipe to help us make Eton Mess! We have a great time and thought it was very yummy!

In Science we have started to learn all about habitats. We have spoken about the basic needs that all living things need to survive: water, food, air, and shelter. We went out into our forest school area as this is a habitat! We looked to see what plants and animals lived there, and what water, food and shelter the habitat provides for them.

In Maths we have been learning all about shape. This week we have been learning about the properties of 2D shape. In class we played the barrier game and were focusing on using correct mathematical vocabulary to describe our shapes, our partner then had to guess what shape we were describing based upon our description.

In D&T this week we made vegetable casserole! We had to follow a recipe as use skills like chopping, peeling, grating and slicing. We had to work carefully with the equipment.

In Geography we have been learning about physical and human features in our local area. This week we took a walk to our local shops to carry out a survey of how many members of the public went into the shop in a set time period. We then thought about why the shop was an important human feature, and what the shop could do to entice more people inside!

In Maths we have been continuing to learn about shape and this week have been sorting shapes according to their properties!
