Term 2 - Through the ages

History is our Topic focus this term. The children will be learning many things within a period called ‘Prehistory’. They will be learning many aspects of life from The Stone Age through to Bronze Age and finally into the Iron Age. The children will explore how humans lived and survived these tough times. They will understand the term Stone Age life and how it was defined by the use of stone for making tools, weapons, and the transition from the hunter-gatherer lifestyle to farming.

In English, they will use the text “Stone Age Boy” to inform their writing. They will create a variety of writing types including setting descriptions, instructions, and narrative writing.

In Science, they will investigate the different types of rock formation as well as fossils. They will understand how the Bronze Age life was defined by the use of metals, including bronze, to make tools, weapons, and objects, and the creation of large settlements and social hierarchy. They will also learn about how Iron Age life was defined by the use of metals, including iron, to make stronger, more effective tools and weapons and fine, decorative objects.
