"[The school] have ensured that all pupils are challenged to improve their work...The standard of handwriting is high across the school...[there are] a wide range of additional activities available to pupils."  (Ofsted – March 2019)

Our curriculum sits at the heart of learning at Earl Spencer and is designed to inspire the children, developing their knowledge and skills, to enable them to go to to become successful lifelong learners.  Whilst our core focus is developing maths, speaking and listening, reading and writing skills through an hour of discrete Maths and English teaching each day, from an early age we advance and consolidate the use of these core skills using our cross curricular approach. The curriculum is further complemented by additional sessions on mental maths strategies and grammar, spelling and punctuation. We use the LCP Phonics scheme to teach phonics in the early years, across key stage 1 and into key stage 2.

We teach an integrated curriculum, based around a new Topic for each Term following thematic imaginative learning projects provided by Cornerstones. The children are often active both in choosing their topic and on leading the learning that takes place.  Visits, trips and external visitors ensure that the Topic comes to life and captures the children's imagination.  At the end of each topic, there is a celebration of the learning, with parents often invited into school to share their child's work. Our aim is to provide a broad and balanced curriculum, designed to prepare our children to succeed with life in modern Britain.
