Wriggles and Crawl

Welcome back to our spring term! Our topic focus will be wriggle and crawl!

In English we will be learning about the lifecycle of a butterfly and writing an explanation text on the 4 stages of their growth. To go with this we will be having our very own classroom caterpillar and watch it grow into a beautiful butterfly!

Our class reader this term is a personal favourite of mine- James and the Giant Peach! It is a crazy story about a lonely little boy and peach that grows to the size of a house. At the end of the term we will be writing a book review on the Roald Dahl book.

Along with having our own classroom caterpillar we will be going on a visit to the butterfly farm in Stratford Upon Avon to see all the different types of butterflies and learn even more about them. Not only that but we are having an exciting visitor come in to show us and teach us all about the insects that live in our schools pond!

In maths this week we have been learning all about measurement and the different units we use for different lengths. We had a great time exploring meters in our classroom and playground!

We had an absolutely fantastic world book day! all of your costumes were amazing! There were so many creative characters! I hope you enjoyed reading our classroom night time story that we made together!

We had an absolutely fascinating time with our special guest Kev! He brought in so many interesting insects both dead and alive and told us some amazing facts about the ones that live in our very own pond! I think everyone's favourite area to investigate was the live pond section that Kev extracted from outside.

It has been absolutely fascinating watching out pupas grow into beautiful butterflies! Here are our class butterflies from start to finish.

We had an absolutely fantastic time on our trip to the butterfly farm! We saw some amazing butterflies and some other cool animals like stick insects, iguanas and frogs! A few children from Holly Class were brave and even held a stick insect and let a butterfly land on their heads! I was not so impressed with the butterflies landing on me haha. I'm sure you would have heard all about our amazing trip but here are the pictures!smiley
