Young Translators
At Earl Spencer Primary School we want all of our pupils to be happy individuals, who feel safe, settled and valued and are fully included in everything that we do. Our school community is widely diverse, and we are extremely proud of the wide range of experiences, views and skills our children bring to school.
At Earl Spencer we speak over 30 different languages and want these to be valued, so that all of our children feel safe and settled in school, no matter their first language. Joining school with no or limited English can be extremely daunting and worrying and at Earl Spencer we want to utilise the vast range of exceptional language skills we have in school to support these pupils.
Our Young Translators have to apply via an application form and have been chosen based off of their application, their behaviour and ability to follow our school rules.
Our young translators support our community in various different ways, including:
- Being a buddy to new children during break and lunch times by playing games or eating lunch with them.
- Showing new children and visitors around the school.
- Checking in with new children to make sure they are ok.
- Helping new children to communicate with others, e.g. if they have a problem or difficulty.
- Showing new children when things happen and how they happen, e.g. at tidy up time.
Here is an outline of all the different languages we speak!
