We have had a great start back to our new term. The children have started to learn about our new topic, Traders and Raiders, and discovered who invaded Britain after the Romans left.
What a fun week! We all loved World Book day - it was so lovely to see so many of our children dressed as Wally (or some of the other characters), we really appreciate all the effort that went into this at home - thank you!! Have a look in the Photos section of Term 4 to see what we got up to.
We have continued our topic of Traders and Raiders this week by learning about Anglo-Saxon brooches. On Friday, we got our hands dirty and created our own design out of clay. It was squelchy fun! We have also been finding out about the legend of King Arthur.
Another fun week in Willow class!
In maths, we have been working on time - maybe you could talk about this with your child this weekend (ask them to change analogue time to digital time or a 12 hour clock to a 24 hour clock).
In English, we learnt about the Anglo-Saxon ruler, King Alfred. We found out about his life, why he was the only King to be called 'great' and ended the week writing a character profile of him.
In RE, we have been thinking about Sacrifice. This week we have been finding out how the Jewish festival of Passover is celebrated.
Check out our Class Photo pages to see our finished Anglo-Saxon brooches - they look amazing!
Willow class have worked very hard this week. We started the week working on some assessments in our Reading and Maths - well done on your hard work Willow!
We had some visitors in on Wednesday afternoon as all of Year 4 had an Easter Experience. Check out the pictures in the Photos section of Term 4.
This week, we have been finding out all about the Vikings. We have been designing Viking shields and learning about Viking longships. Ask your child what they know!
Don't forget that it is our school trip to Grendon on Monday. Can you please make sure your child is at school for 8:20 and is dressed appropriately for our sporty activities.
This week we have been finding out about what the Vikings looked like and what they wore. We designed outfits for a Viking man and woman.
In English, we have been thinking about writing diaries. We wrote diary entries as if we were in an Anglo-Saxon village while the Vikings were attacking. Thank goodness we were just pretending!
In Maths, we revisited short multiplication and short division. These are really tricky methods but we have all tried very hard! Why don't you ask your child what they can remember?
This week, we were really pleased to be able to award three Pen Licences to children who are showing beautiful handwriting. They received a certificate and a special pen to use at school. Well done! We are looking forward to being able to award more of these in the next two terms.
This is the last week of our Traders and Raiders topic. The children have enjoyed finding out about some of the Anglo-Saxon kings and discovering lots of facts about the Vikings over the past six weeks. We are now starting to look forward to our new topic... The Blue Abyss.
We had a fantastic display of Easter bonnets in our class - thank you so much for the time and assistance you put into making them. We also had a brilliant selection of Easter poetry. Check out our pictures in the Photos section of Term 4.
We wish you all a lovely restful Easter break and look forward to seeing everybody in the Summer term.
