Summer term 1
Welcome back, to a fun packed term!
In topic this term we will be learning how to grow a variety of crops, including carrots, lettuce, cress and a selection of herbs. We will then be preparing these vegetables to produce healthy and tasty foods.
In science this term, we will be investigating what plants need to grow strong and healthy, and carry out investigations into growing healthy cress and creating multi-coloured flowers!
Maths this term will be building on previous knowledge and learning about area, perimeter and volume, using fractions, decimals and percentages to solve problems, using calculation skills to solve problems and an introduction to algebra.
In English this term we will be writing short stories based on The Secret Garden, and continuing with our weekly spellings.
The children have enjoyed finding out about thermal insulators.

We had a fantastic day at Sulgrave Manor, as you can see from the pictures below. The children really enjoyed the drama activity acting out the life of Henry VIII.
Welcome to spring term 1.
In maths this term we will be looking at reflection of shapes, coordinates, adding, subtracting and multiplying fractions, solving problems involving measure and calculation skills.
In English this term, we will be writing biographies, riddles, news reports and persuasive letters. Our spelling focus this term will be homophones (words which sound the same but have a different meaning)
In science this term, we will be looking at separating mixture, and writing scientific reports.
In topic this term we will be learning about the Tudors and finding out about Henry VIII and his six wives! Tudor crimes and punishments and life in Tudor times. We will be starting off our topic with a visit to Sulgrave Manor, were we will experience life as a poor Tudor child.
We hope you have had a restful half term break.
This term we are starting our exciting topic of mini-beasts, which we will be launching with a visit to Bugtopia, in Kettering, where we shall be looking at different types of mini-beast in our environment, the life-cycle of butterfly's and frogs, and food chains and webs.
In English this term, we shall be looking at report writing, writing instructions to build a wormery and reciting and writing poetry.
In maths we shall be looking at drawing, recognising and measuring angles, identifying the features of 2D and 3D shapes and continuing with using our calculation skills, in order to solve problems.
Our parent mornings continue to be on a Thursday morning, please feel free to come along, to see what exciting things we are doing.
Congratulations year 5, for winning the 'lunch time superstars' award. Our trophy will take pride of place in the year 5 classroom.

All spellings should be practised during the week, and books brought back into school on a Monday morning, for testing. This is when a new spelling list will be given.
All other homework is due in on a Thursday, and new homework will be given out on the Friday.
We had a fantastic time at Pitt Rivers Museum. We went on an Ancient Egyptian trail, learnt new facts and had a look around the museum. We particularly enjoyed looking at the real life mummy!
We have had a very busy afternoon doing art with Carole, a local artist.
We painted Egyptian masks in different styles, learning skills in holding the brush correctly, using materials appropriately and using our own creative ideas to make original pieces.
