Autumn 1 Superheroes

This week we have been learning all about Florence Nightingale as she was a significant historical 'hero'. We have learnt that she wanted to be a nurse but her parents did not approve so she read books without them knowing. She then became a nurse and trained other women and went to Turkey to help injured soldiers from the Crimean War. She cleaned the hospital and helped the recovery rate of soldiers improve. At night Florence would walk between the beds with a lamp to ensure the soldiers were ok and did not need anything. From doing this she became known as Lady of the Lamp.
